Hyderabad, 19th March, 2016: World renowned spiritual leader Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, affectionately known to her devotees across the globe as "Amma," is undertaking a 'Bharat yatra.' As part of the yatra she is in Hyderabad for two days begining today. She released a souvenir on the occasion at Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Mahendra Hills. Amma is setting out on this Yatra primarily to reach out to the poor and needy and spread the message of love and serve, besides blessing the large community of her devotees.
As part of the Bharat Yatra, Amma will be at Hyderabad today & tomorrow to shower her blessings on the large devotee community present in the city and both the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Amma during her stay in Hyderabad at the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Mahendra Hills, East Marredpally, will distribute Educational Scholarships - 'Vidyamritam' to 1000 more students, currently the Math is supporting 5000 poor students with Scholarships; will also aid 500 more widows and destitutes through the pension scheme 'Amrita Nidhi', taking the total number of beneficiaries in the two states to 3500 and will release a Souvenir "Amritaarpanam - 2016" today.

During the two days she will hold satsang, bhajans, meditation and will be available for individual darshan to devotees today & tomorrow from 10 a.m. onwards.

To make our villages self reliant and role models of sustainable development, Amma has initiated a unique program -'The Amrita SeRVe' (Self Reliant Villages). Amma will be adopting two villages as part of The Amrita SeRVe, one each in both the states - Kodur in Medak district in Telangana and Gudipaticheruvu in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Amma believes empowerment of the village can be accomplished only through the empowerment of women at home. As part of this, volunteers of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math will provide the women of the villages with basic education, vocational training and address their healthcare needs. Free training will be provided at tailor training centers. Tuition classes will be conducted for children in the villages from primary level to Eamcet coaching. The Amrita University students, 40% of whom are from the two Telugu states, will be involved in this voluntary work, as part of their curriculum. Solutions generated from extensive research done by the Amrita University in the areas of education, and issues related to day to day living in villages, will be implemented by these students. The University has developed unique solutions like software for simplifying education, 'e' learning techniques etc., these will be made available at the villages and the students will ensure the adoption by the villages.

Amma's initiatives in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
In the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Mata Amritanandamayi Math has been undertaking several welfare schemes for the amelioration of the poor and deprived sections of the society. During Her visit in 2008, Amma announced an Educational Scholarship scheme 'VIDYAMRITAM', for poor students chosen from underprivileged families of farmers. During the Floods in Kurnool in 2009, AMMA sent a relief team including volunteers from the Hyderabad Ashram center to console the victims and to distribute food, blankets, utensils, bedding and clothing. Doctors from AIMS, Cochin, accompanied by one Tele Medicine Ambulance and one fully equipped Ambulance attended to around 20,000 patients and distributed medicines worth Rs.1 crore.

Some of the initiatives undertaken by Mata AmritanandamayiMath :

Relief and rehabilitation works worth Rs. 200 Crores had already been provided by Amma for the Tsunami.
Construction of 1,25,000 free homes for the poor.
"Vidyamritam" Educational Scholarships to 1 lakh students across India picked from the poor farmers families'.
Z 50 Crores worth relief and rehabilitation works for the flood affected areas of Mahaboobnagar dist. and Karnataka in 2009.
Rebuilt three earthquake-devastated villages in Gujarat.
Gives monthly pension to over 50,000 destitute woman.
Feeds over 1,00,000 poor every month.
Care homes for the elderly.
Orphanage.
Hospice for terminally ill cancer patients.
Hospice for AIDS patients.
Super Specialty Hospital at Kochi.
